Delany Damask Notebook
100 years ago today, Millicent Fawcett, the Pankhursts and other suffrage campaigners secured the first votes for a minority of women. In support of gender equality and women’s rights, we are donating 10% of every Delany Damask Shawl and Notebook to the Fawcett Society from now until 6th February 2019. The Delany Damask shawl was inspired by Mary Delany who was a botanical artist who created thousands of beautiful collaged botanical artworks that make up a ten-volume study of botany. She along with her good friend Margaret Bentinck, the Duchess of Portland were members of the Blue Stockings Society which was founded in the 1750s, a group which has been described by many historians as “having preserved and advanced feminism”. The Blue Stockings Society was a group of aristocratic women seeking increased intellectual opportunities for members of their sex. This scarf is a homage to their amazing work.
